First built in military set up fashion by the desert castle group that was hired during the Al-Walid II reign. It was one of the first architectural time pieces. Having an abundance of decorations on most of its facade, it pertains a great deal of importance to understanding how architecture was thought about back in 750 CE.  The palace rests in Mshatta, Jordan, a place that is quite desolate. The builders of the palace used the idea of carve and fill in order to create the building. Using the materials that were available to them such as mud, masonry, and brick, the palace became a very thick and strong structure.

The palace was originally constructed in order to welcome pilgrims that were coming from the Mecca. This area was very decorative; people in this time would carve designs into stones. Although  the palace is not completed,it is still preserved because of the level of work already put into it. The site took heavy damage during the second world war, and was the reconstructed partially. A large part of the property was bought by the Bode museum in Berlin back in 1903 after it was discovered in 1840. But even way back then, the building was used as a winter residence because of the thick walls that made up the building.

All in all, this palace is massive with a square footage of 144 meters, it is built to be occupied by many people at once. Possibly for ceremonial purposes or celebratory functions as well. The architecture lies in the stone work that was crafted by the artists back then.
