The Tower of
Babel
According to the Bible the Tower of Babel is the reason why
in the world so many different languages exist. The conventional interpretation of the Tower
of Babel is that, humanity arrogantly challenged God by building a tower; with
its head reaching up to the heavens. In the book of Genesis it explains that
they planned to do battle with God is his heavenly abode. The Tower of Babel is also call the ziggurat
of Babylon and was dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Marduck.
The ruins of the Tower of Babel is located in today Iraq.
Architects and archeologists are still trying to figure out what the tower could
have looked like. In this period, the technique of construction was to build a
larger structure and then the different level would shrink in size as the tower
increased in height.
The Tower of Babel is made of made of mud brick baked in a
very hot oven called a kiln. This would make the brick very hard and durable.
According to Frederico
Vegas, the tower makes 90-meter high and 90 meters square. They wanted to build
the city with a uniform manufactured brick instead of natural stones. The use
of a uniform brick makes it easier to construct giant building projects.
According to the bible when they got to a certain height no
one was able to understand one another because they all started to speak
different languages. And because of that the construction has stop.
Today, we know better if they had kept on building higher and
higher until they reach the heavens. They would have died sooner then they
thought. Once you reach the stratosphere there is no more oxygen. It is unfortunate that the Tower of Babel, supposedly the mother of all languages has no record, plan, no
section. Was it even plan at all?
No body can say specifically what does the tower look like. All
we know about the tower, is what
kind of material they have used.
