At the beginning of the 16th century the building was going through a rough period where the double order of porticoes (order of columns) and loggias was not completed and collapsed. The city decided to fix the building by call many architects to fix the problem of its reconstruction. At the end the project was given to the young architect Andrea Palladio. Andrea Palladio redesigned the building by adding loggias with serliana openings with white marble so keep that Gothic style touch to it. The reconstruction of the building was called Basilica, which gave it the name it has today, Palladio was inspired by the model of Roman Basilica used.
